Kolkata Celebrates KKR Win at Eden

A crowd of around 70,000 fans turned up to welcome the Kolkata Knight Riders team and the owners Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla and Jay Mehta. The 70,000-capacity Eden Gardens resembled a mini Kolkata with the galleries packed to the hilt well before the team entered their home ground.

Kolkatans  thronged the Eden to join the grand celebration of IPL winner KKR who bagged their first title after beating two-time defending champions Chennai Super Kings. The State government, Kolkata Municipal Corporation and Cricket Association of Bengal organized the celebration of KKR victory. West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and governor M K Narayanan felicitated and greeted the players at the Writers Building with shawls, bouquets, gold chains for their maiden IPL title win. Bouquets and scarves were personally handed to team members and the team owners.

SRK, the brand ambassador of West Bengal, thanked Mamata Banerjee and the people of Kolkata at the reception amidst thunderous cheers from hundreds of people for their support, Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, Tollywood stars and Bangla bands like Chandrabindoo, Bhoomi and Dohar treated the crowd with unlimited entertainment at the Eden Gardens.

"Korbo lorbo jitbo” blared out aloud across Eden Gardens for most part of the day, as the city turned purple and gold to celebrate Kolkata Knight Riders' maiden IPL title.
Meanwhile, there was a bit of a scuffle which resulted in a mild lathi-charge outside the stadium to control the crowd.
