Kolkata Celebrates KKR Win at Eden

A crowd of around 70,000 fans turned up to welcome the Kolkata Knight Riders team and the owners Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla and Jay Mehta. The 70,000-capacity Eden Gardens resembled a mini Kolkata with the galleries packed to the hilt well before the team entered their home ground.

Kolkatans  thronged the Eden to join the grand celebration of IPL winner KKR who bagged their first title after beating two-time defending champions Chennai Super Kings. The State government, Kolkata Municipal Corporation and Cricket Association of Bengal organized the celebration of KKR victory. West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and governor M K Narayanan felicitated and greeted the players at the Writers Building with shawls, bouquets, gold chains for their maiden IPL title win. Bouquets and scarves were personally handed to team members and the team owners.

SRK, the brand ambassador of West Bengal, thanked Mamata Banerjee and the people of Kolkata at the reception amidst thunderous cheers from hundreds of people for their support, Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, Tollywood stars and Bangla bands like Chandrabindoo, Bhoomi and Dohar treated the crowd with unlimited entertainment at the Eden Gardens.  

"Korbo lorbo jitbo” blared out aloud across Eden Gardens for most part of the day, as the city turned purple and gold to celebrate Kolkata Knight Riders' maiden IPL title.
Meanwhile, there was a bit of a scuffle which resulted in a mild lathi-charge outside the stadium to control the crowd.

Bus Ride Connects India- Myanmar

The cabinet is set to approve a weekly bus service connecting the Manipur capital, Imphal with the city of Myanmar, Mandalay. A memorandum of understanding is expected to sign between the The cabinet is set to approve a weekly bus service connecting the Manipur Capital, Imphal with two countries during the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to Myanmar. The bus service between the two countries will be available only on Monday. Private bus operators will be functioning on both countries, though the bus fare has not been decided yet. The final technical discussions were held between the two countries  during a two- day visit to Myanmar by the joint secretary of the ministry of road transport and highways, S. Narendra on May 10-11.




A few limitations of this bus service between India – Myanmar is being stated. In India, there is right hand driven vehicles while Myanmar follow the European model of left- hand drive. Passengers have to disembark and board a bus of the other country at the border. Despite the bus service there is no proposal to customs relaxation or immigration requirements. The passengers will have to carry valid passports. They shall be granted a one- month single entry visa on arrival at Tamur and Morch border checkpost by immigration officials from the respective countries. Luggage is restricted to one suitcase weighing not more than 20 kg. Commercial baggage cargo are not allowed.

 
This project has been in pipeline for the last 9 years. A resolution was passed by the Manipur Assembly in 2003 to introduce a regular bus service between the two countries. The government has also plans to set up a development corridor connecting India with Myanmar.
